The WNL Challenge Course format allows for a few retries on obstacles as athletes go through the course.
The athlete starts the course with two retries, which can't be used on the same obstacle. If an athlete fails an obstacle, time is paused, and the athlete returns to the start platform of the obstacle. Once the obstacle is fully reset (or immediately, if no resetting of the obstacle is required) the timer will give a 3 second countdown, after which time is un-paused and the athlete attempts the obstacle again.
If the athlete fails the obstacle on their retry attempt, then they fail out of the course. Once this happens, the athlete is welcome to attempt each of the remaining obstacles in the course until their time limit is reached. However, once the athlete has failed out, they will stop accumulating points, and their total time will be marked at the last obstacle they completed before failing out.
